Tallinn Christmas market 2014/2015

The first day of Tallinn Christmas market 2014/2015

The traditional Christmas Market in Tallinn’s Town Hall Square is now open

The Christmas Market opened on 21 November at 16.50 and is open every day from 10-19. It will remain open untilJanuary 10, 2015. Warm beverages can be purchased on a daily basis until ten in the evening.

Like every year, the Christmas Market offers visitors a lot of exciting things this year as well. Once again, the stage design was updated. On the stage is a magnificent LED display, decorative lighting has been added so that even in case of a “black Christmas” in the Town Hall Square, there would be created a warm Christmas feeling. The New Year’s Eve program waits for everybody from 31.12.2014 at 22:00 – to 01.01.2015 at 02:00.

The cultural program is scheduled for the times when there are more visitors in the Town Hall Square: Fridays at 16-18, Saturdays at 17-19 and Sundays, at 12-14. In total, during this wonderful holiday season, nearly 100 groups with 1700 performers take the stage, including the Toddlers’ Choir Ellerhein, E.T.A. Dance School, Free Flow Studio, Carolina Dance Studio, Dance Group Modus and a lot of folk dance ensembles: Sõleke, Kullaketrajad, Pääsuke, Kuu and Leigarid.

Advent candles are lit on Sundays. In the First Advent, on Sunday, November 30, at 1400, a welcome speech is made by the mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar and the Provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Jaan Tammsalu.

The Christmas Market has a large selection of gifts and sweets. The range of goods contains large quantities of Christmas decorations, woolen sweaters, hats, scarves, gloves, fur and sheepskin vests and slippers, and beautiful handmade candles. One can also buy food here – hams, sausages, catfish, gingerbread, hand-made candy and other sweets, of which the vast majority are from organic products. For enjoying on the spot, there are a variety of Christmas dishes, sweets, gingerbread and mulled wine. Many of the masters come to sell themselves, because who could be better to talk about these products than those who have grown or manufactured them.

The Christmas Market is a place for the entire family. Again, carousels are revolving for the smallest of the family, which are made according to the most legendary carousels by Peter Petz. The children will love the family of reindeer, whose calf has by now grown to be a pretty big boy and loves to meet with children and is proud of his new and even fancier horns.

Together with the reindeer, for the First Advent will arrive the long-awaited Santa Claus, who receives children in his cabin until the end of the Christmas Market – every day from twelve to six in the evening. Children can go to him to read poems or practice songs and who does it well, or is otherwise a good kid, can also get a treat from the Santa.

The organizers are hoping that everyone will find something fun for themselves in the Christmas Market – those who help Santa Clause to complete the gift bag or those who come just to have a nice time – sipping on hot drinks with friends and loved ones, enjoying the cultural program and partaking in the Christmas feeling.

Spend a day in Tallinn Christmas Market, which together with the family and friends feels like a wonderful Christmas tale, where anything is possible!
